Edit: Going through the comments, apologies that I can’t reply to every single one. I’ll get to the bulk of them here
For those suggesting that I move, this honestly I think will be my best bet in the long run.
For those saying I should become a CNA, and then work up in healthcare…I know I’m going to get down voted for this, but this is something I cannot do. The 8 years I spent as a caretaker were the absolute worst years of my life. The pay was not bad, it was absolutely horrible. $8.00 per hour, no benefits, no raises, the constant abuse…I’m sorry, I just can’t do anything like that again
Also, I’m 41, I don’t see myself moving up in that position
And for those giving unhelpful comments like “your degree is useless because of AI” no, it’s not. I just need to learn to use AI in my workflow
And for the especially unhelpful person who said “shack up with a fat chick” that is not helpful
+++++++++++
I’ve been searching for a job since early 2024, but with no luck. I live in a city where the population is 44,000, but with the surrounding areas the population goes up to 100,000
Job listings on indeed plus city plus county is around 300 – 500
I’ve applied to nearly everything, retail jobs, grocery stores, fast food, various office jobs…no luck.
I have a BA in animation, and VFX. I know that in order to get a job in that I’ll either need to move, or find something that’s wfh. I’ve been told to not even try and get anything that’s wfh, because the only thing available is in tech
My last self-employed job was for Doordash in 2023, before that it was Uber Eats from 2020 to 2021. My last “actual” job was for Walmart from 2016 – 2017, and before that it was as a caretaker from 2008 – 2015
It’s not that I want to stay in retail, or fast food for the rest of my working life, but just the fact that I can’t even seem to get a job in that is frustrating.
How screwed am I, and what should I do? Should I extend my search to other areas? Should I at least try to find something wfh that impliments my degree? Should I look into work rehabilitation?
