Started a new job in December. Was eligible for benefits after 30 days and signed up for health insurance. Got my insurance cards in the mail and already used the dental.
Then last week I got an email saying that the website that manages the benefits had sent out letters to some employees notifying them that there benefits were cancelled due to the companies transition to a different benefits package. They tells us to log into this other portal to check our benefits. Checked the second portal and didn’t see any health insurance or dental insurance listed.
When I contacted HR they told me (an email specifically to me, not company wide) that they would be reopening the open enrollment window to allow employees who either missed or their selections are not reflected in the new system. That I currently don’t have insurance but it will become retroactive to the beginning of the month once I sign up again. This happens on Monday.
I’ve never heard of something like this happening before. Am I wrong to be a little freaked out?
