Alabama information technology outsourcing firm Provalus will create a Center of Excellence in North Wilkesboro, bringing 150 jobs.

Provalus, based in Brewton, Ala., and founded in 2017. is the operating name of Optomi LLC, a US-based outsourcing company.

Provalus provides technology and business support to large Fortune 1000 clients, including cybersecurity, cloud support and data analytics.

“North Carolina offers exceptionally talented workers in every part of our state, and it’s great to see a company like Provalus recognize this strength in Wilkes County,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.

The center represents a capital investment of $1.05 million. It is the company’s second Center of Excellence in North Carolina, including a facility in Whiteville, where it has promised to create at least 92 jobs.

The North Wilkesboro project will involve fitting out an existing office space. The project is intended to allow the company to meet increasing demand from customers in the areas of cyber security, application development and network operations.

The company bills itself as “uplifting communities by developing undiscovered talent in rural towns across the United States to provide technology, business and support services.” A focus in determining new locations is “veteran-heavy American communities.”

“Establishing our second North Carolina Center of Excellence in North Wilkesboro is a meaningful step forward in our mission to create opportunities that revitalize rural American communities,” Mike Keogh, Provalus’ president, said in a statement.

“This expansion allows us to leverage the region’s exceptional talent and promote job creation and economic growth that will benefit both the local community and the broader region. We are proud to deepen our roots in North Carolina and invest in the potential of this remarkable area.”

The average annual salary for the new jobs will be $45,852. By comparison, the current annual average salary in Wilkes County is $45,819.

The company has been made eligible for up to $150,000 in performance-based incentives from the One North Carolina Fund, which requires matching local incentives.

LeeAnn Nixon, chairwoman of the Wilkes Economic Development Commission, said the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners and the city of North Wilkesboro are scheduled to vote Tuesday night on their separate incentive packages.

“An application has been submitted to the NC Rural Division for a potential building reuse grant,” Nixon said. “The outcome of this grant request will not be known until the first week of December.”

According to its website, Provalus has six facilities in the United States, including Brewton, Henderson, Texas, Jasper, Texas, Manning, SC and Tahlequah, Okla. Three more are listed as coming in Crockett, Texas, Monticello, Ky. and Walnut Ridge, Ark.

Provalus said it relies on employee training boot camps to “elevate highly qualified individuals from jobs in retail stores and gas stations to careers as software developers, quality assurance testers, data security experts, systems engineers and more.”

NC Sen. Eddie Settle, R-Wilkes, said “our community looks forward to helping Provalus’ managers and workers establish this facility, grow their business and build another great success story for our region.”
