I’ve been looking to supplement my income and I’m not old or disabled. They want high schoolers to make sure no one will try to get a shift lead position worth one dollar more OR they need adult slaves that had 30 kids by age 22 with no hope to try and progress to the shift lead position.

My dream is to sit at a cash register or fill up boxes and be there three days a week with the ability to replace myself once a month because I work another job. I know me typing this desire makes some people want to throw up at how entitled I’m being but 10 years ago this wasn’t a unicorn type request. This is what a part-time job used to be. The manager at a clothing store or burger place EXPECTED employees to not truly prioritize that job.

Now you have to have open availability to have the slightest chance at one of these places. They deliberately keep skeleton crews so there’s no such thing as a casual job anymore. This is scary to think these are career jobs now. And don’t deny that to me because it’s obvious.

Thank god the freelance thing is going ok and I have a spouse. I guess I’m switching gears to finding a full time job in my field but that doesn’t seem much more hopeful.
