Hello reddit! Long story short, I work a retail job (womp womp) and I’ve noticed that my boss will only text me on the shifts I’m working to give extra tasks. I’ve talked with my other coworker and he has never been texted about tasks to do. I’ve been working for the company for about 2.5 years and he has worked here for a year, I’m not a manager we are both retail sales workers. She’s sets it up in a way where I can’t say no, she’ll ask if I want a task but then she’ll be coming that night or the next day so I can’t even ask my coworker to do it. I also know that if I say no I’ll get in trouble so how can I tell her to give these tasks to my coworker professionally? Also, he works most of the week, I mainly work on weekends so I’m not sure why I’m given these tasks. She was even at the store last week with my coworker and instead of telling him to do something then she waits almost a week to tell me to do stuff. I understand she’s my boss and it’s a business these things need to get done, but what I don’t understand is why I’m the only person being asked to do things. It’s not even daily tasks to maintain the store it’s like manual labor (moving heavy objects, taking apart furniture, etc). I will add that it is also a small business so I don’t have like a union or anything, there’s technically no HR unless I want to go to her son so I have no clue what to do. Sorry for making this so long!
TLDR: My boss only assigns me difficult tasks and not my coworker, so I want to find a professional way to say no.
